Dream Crate: A Loot Crate for Writers!

Loot Crate is a subscription service that sends out monthly boxes of cool, fun, nerdy stuff on different pop culture themes themes (they have a Wizarding World box, for instance; monthly Harry Potter-related treats!). They’re reaching out to people and asking them to create their own Dream Crates, an imaginary box of things we’d put together if we were compiling our own subscription crate.

I would love to get a monthly box of subscription goodies for writers. Notebooks! Candles! Cute pens! There are so many options for boxes — aaand I’m afraid I’ve gone a bit overboard and created a few Dream Crates. Consider this three sample months of a Subscription Box for Writers:

Box #1: Write! Now!

This is a box of motivation, to get your butt in a seat and a pencil in your hand! We’ve got an encouraging notebook that reminds you “That Novel Isn’t Going to Write Itself”, accompanied by a pencil that urges you to “Get Stuff Done”, a sticker reminding you to “Stay Up and Write”, and an “Eat, Sleep, Write” tote bag to store it all in!

~

Box #2: For the Sadistic Writer

For all you writers out there that torture your characters (and, by association, your readers) and then cackle about it later: The Sadistic Writer Box! We’ve got a Tears of My Readers mug, a journal reminding you to Kill All Your Darlings, an Evil Genius Pencil, and a warning towards anyone who might try to cross you — a Careful, or you’ll up in my novel sticker.

~

Box #3: A Stickler For Grammar

Our final box is for the writers and editors out there who truly hold grammar close to their hearts. A mug that warns “I’m Silently Correcting Your Grammar“, a pencil reminding you of your favorite grammatical rules, an adorable Who/Whom owl print, and a great vinyl sticker subtly correcting your use of “*you’re.”

There’s so much more you could do with a monthly writer’s box. Other themes you could have:

  • a month all about Characters with questionnaires to fill out, templates for drawing your character, maybe an art print about loving our fictional characters
  • Plotting, with tools & advice
  • a World Building box could have a cool page of parchment on which to draw your fictional world’s map!
  • Productivity, with motivational prints, a word count planning sheet, tips for doing word sprints and making writing a daily discipline!
  • Planning, with charts on the Three Act Structure, planner stickers, who knows, there’s so much you could do!
  • November NaNoWriMo partnership box!

GAH, THE IDEAS GO ON AND ON. Basically, the box would be about spreading encouragement and motivation, with notebooks, pens, mugs, art prints, and actual writer-ly tools to help you get inspired!

If you could design your own Dream Crate, what would you choose for a theme? What sorts of goodies would go in your dream box? Tell me in the comments below!

Oh my gosh I love all of these. I’m sure I couldn’t afford a monthly subscription box for writers, but I love the idea of it. I also seriously need that “I’m silently correcting your grammar” mug.

Maybe it could be a box that comes out every two or three months, to cut down on the cost!

I love the idea of subscription boxes, but could never justify the idea of spending so much for them. But for a writers’ box? Yeah, I’d go for that! These are great ideas! I love the mugs and pencils.

Oh, I know. I’ve tried book subscription boxes in the past, but they’re so hit or miss — if you don’t like the book chosen for that month, you’re out of luck! But a box of notebooks and things, I’d for SURE use.
